Resident Evil 3 remake sold two million copies in its first week

While Resident Evil 3's remake didn't get as warm of a reception as Resident Evil 2, there has still been plenty of buzz around Capcom's latest classic revival. Throughout its first week, Resident Evil 3 sold 2 million copies worldwide.

The original version of Resident Evil 3 came out all the way back in 1999, so it was due a bit of a makeover. Just like last year's remake, the new version of Resident Evil 3 runs on the updated RE Engine, paving the way for vast visual improvements and smoother gameplay.

Resident Evil 3's two million sales are split roughly 50/50 between physical copies and digital, which shouldn't be too surprising, as digital gaming has been slowly taking over the console market. Beyond that, Capcom is also attracting more PC gamers nowadays, a market that is pretty much entirely digital.

Aside from all of that, Resident Evil 2 remake has now surpassed 6.5 million copies sold, while the Resident Evil franchise has surpassed 95 million game sales to date.
