AMD launches 3rd Gen Ryzen 3 processors and B550 motherboard chipset

Today, AMD is announcing its 3rd Gen Ryzen 3 series processors in addition to the B550 chipset for Socket AM4 motherboards. The new Ryzen 3 series will include the Ryzen 3 3300X and the Ryzen 3 3100, both housing four cores and eight threads.

As you would expect, these new Ryzen 3 CPUs are based on the Zen 2 architecture and leverage Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), giving twice the bandwidth and double the threads to work with.

As part of a press release, AMD's Senior VP and GM of Client Business, Saeid Moshkelani, noted that this is part of the company's commitment to “providing solutions that meet and exceed” demands for all levels of computing.

These new CPUs come accompanied by the new B550 chipset, which will ensure more cost-effective motherboards for those building on a budget. B550 will be the only mainstream modern chipset to support PCIe 4.0, so you can still benefit from extremely fast SSD speeds. The Ryzen 3 series is coming in May, but B550 motherboards will be a little behind, with models from the likes of ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Colorful, GIGABYTE and MSI expected in June.
