As expected, Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake is off to an excellent start sales-wise, swiftly rising to the top of UK charts. The game launched on Friday, swiftly bumping down other top sellers, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Resident Evil 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
As reported by GI.biz, there has been growth in the boxed games market this year, with the recent COVID-19 lockdown seeing 1.5 million physical game sales despite shops being closed. The top ten video game sales this week track physical sales and not digital, so some games may be placed differently with both markets taken into account.
Here are the top 10 selling games in the UK for the week ending on April 12th:
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- FIFA 20
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- Forza Horizon 4
- Resident Evil 3
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Grand Theft Auto V
- The Last of Us Remastered
A lot of older titles are seeing a resurgence, indicating that a lot of people stuck at home are picking up games they missed out on last year now that there is some time to catch up.
KitGuru Says: People have been clamouring for a Final Fantasy VII Remake since the tech demo shown over a decade ago. With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if the game remains in the top ten for more weeks to come, although being a PS4 exclusive does limit the customer base a bit. Have any of you been playing Final Fantasy VII Remake over the weekend?
