Fortnite’s latest in-game event sees 12.3 million concurrent players

Though Fortnite may no longer be the constant talk of the town as it was in 2018 and 2019, the free-to-play battle royale is undoubtedly still incredibly popular. This can be seen with the game’s most recent collaborative effort with musician Travis Scott. The in-game concert, which first took place on the 23rd of April, saw over 12.3 million players concurrently attending, beating the game’s previous record.

Taking to twitter to announce the record-breaking figures, Epic Games stated that “Over 12.3 million concurrent players participated live in Travis Scott's Astronomical, an all-time record!”

Previously, Fortnite’s highest concurrent player record was achieved during another in-game concert. Back in February 2019, DJ Marshmello hosted an in-game concert which drew over 10.7 million concurrent players. As Fortnite isn’t available on Steam, a more detailed breakdown of the battle royale’s concurrent players isn't available. That being said, 12.3 million players is undoubtedly a huge achievement.

On Steam, the highest concurrent number of players ever was set by PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds, which saw over 3.25 million players back in January 2018. Of course, Fortnite’s figures include players across a wide number of platforms, unlike SteamDB, which only tracks PC games from Steam.

Still, Fortnite’s latest in-game concert is proving that the battle royale shooter can still provide new and unforgettable experiences, and that it has so much more to offer.
