Intel’s Comet Lake i3 CPU Cinebench scores on par with Ryzen 3 3000

Over the past week, some early benchmarks of the upcoming Ryzen 3 processors have given us a glimpse of the CPUs' performance when compared with the Intel Core i7-7700K. Now, Cinebench R20 scores for both of the upcoming Core i3 and Ryzen 3 processors have been published, giving us a closer look at the relative performance of these new CPUs.

Although neither series of processors has launched yet, it's expected that both the new AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X will battle Intel's Core i3-10100 and i3-10300 at the same performance and price segment. These scores were published by CPUMonkey (via 3DCenter) and should give us an early idea of how these processors stack up using the popular Cinebench R20 benchmark.

As seen in the image below, besides the previously mentioned AMD Ryzen 3 3000 series and Intel Comet Lake Core i3 processors, 3DCenter also compared it with the flagship Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K and the AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, because of its similar core and thread configuration and as a means to compare the Ryzen IPC improvements.

AMD's Ryzen 3 3300X has the best single-thread and multi-thread score out of the bunch, despite sporting lower clock speeds than some of the other processors. Although the Core i3-10300 has the same number of core and threads as the Ryzen 3 3300X, and is somewhat similarly clocked, the Ryzen 3 3300X still is about 7.5% better in single-thread performance. On the other hand, the multi-thread performance should be considered the same due to the marginal performance difference.

The lower clocked Ryzen 3 3100 single-threaded performance is very similar to Intel's solutions, but multi-thread performance seems to be inferior by about 6.5%. On the other hand, if we compare it to the Ryzen 5 1500X, it's clear how much AMD has improved since 1st Gen Ryzen. Single-thread performance has increased by 30%, while the multi-thread score has increased by 19%.

The new AMD Ryzen 3 processors are expected to be available next month, while Intel Comet Lake processors are expected to be released by Q2 2020.
