Huawei to debut its own PC OS

When thinking of operating systems for desktops one usually comes to think of Windows, Linux or macOS. However, Huawei is looking to change that with it's planned entry to the PC market with its own operating system- HarmonyOS 2.0.

The first iteration of Huawei's HarmonyOS was introduced at the Huawei Developer Conference 2019. Despite being introduced a year ago, the operating system still hasn't debuted to the Chinese PC market. However, that is expected to change soon with HarmonyOS 2.0.

In 2019, Huawei released a roadmap for HarmonyOS. On the presentation of HarmonyOS 2.0 the words “创新国产PC, 手表 and 车机” appear – which can be translated to domestically manufactured PCs, watches and cars. It can therefore be predicted that Huawei is planning a wide domestic roll out to these products within 2020.

It's still unknown what functions Huawei's OS will bring, or whether it will be available outside of China.

Kitguru says: It's clear the Chinese government and Chinese companies are working hard to be able to create computer systems that consist completely of Chinese hardware and software. When do you think they will be able to accomplish their goal?
