RaspbianXP offers a Windows XP experience for Raspberry Pi 4

Nowadays most news relating to the once so popular Windows XP refers to how different companies and services are droping their support for the operating system – including Firefox, Steam and Blizzard, just to mention a few. However, there is some good news for those who miss the old OS – PI LAB has just released a Linux-based “Windows XP”.

The Linux based RapbianXP is created to resemble Windows XP and to run on a Raspberry Pi 4 as previous versions of the single board computer aren't powerful enough. RasbianXP is – as the name would suggest – based on Raspbian and uses an overlay and icons that make it look like Windows XP. However, it's worth mentioning that although the operating system might look like Windows XP it still needs an emulator to run proper Windows software from the XP era.

The operating system created by PI LAB is still a work in progress, so new features are to be expected in the future. It still remains to be seen how far the creator – and potentially others – are willing to go to recreate an even more similar looking version of the once so popular Windows XP
