Sony announced that PlayStation head, Jim Ryan, would be leaving the company quite some time ago. Now, the company has officially announced his replacement. Starting in June, PlayStation will be led by two CEOs, one focused on the hardware side of the business, and another overseeing studios.
Hermen Hulst, who was already the head of PlayStation Studios, will now move into a CEO role, overseeing the newly formed PlayStation Studio Business Group, which is responsible for all first-party games, third-party partnerships, as well as cross-media efforts, like TV and film adaptations.
Hideaki Nishino will become the CEO of the PlayStation Platform Business Group, which oversees all PlayStation hardware, as well as accessories, the PlayStation Network and third-party partnerships with outside studios and publishers.
This is essentially a restructuring of the PlayStation business, separating the game development side from the hardware and services side. The news came following Sony's most recent quarterly earnings report, in which we also learned that PS5 console sales have dropped year-on-year, causing Sony to revise its forecast for the fiscal year.

KitGuru Says: This is an interesting change, but not an entirely unexpected one. Hulst in particular had already been overseeing PlayStation Studios for several years before this change.
