Rockstar co-founder, Dan Houser, officially unveiled his new media company, Absurd Ventures, in 2023. Shortly afterwards, the first two projects were announced, but neither were gaming-focused. Now, it appears that Absurd Ventures is beginning to work on its first game project, and some early details have been uncovered through job listings.
Unsurprisingly, the game in question sounds like Houser's specialty. On the Absurd Ventures website, a new job listing shows that the company is hiring for a lead gameplay designer for an “open world action-adventure game”. The game aims to offer “best-in-class combat and third person action across multiple game modes”.
Elsewhere, it would appear that Absurd Ventures will be going with Unreal Engine for its new project, which makes sense as it is one of the more accessible engines on the market and there are many developers with experience using it, which would mean less downtime for training.
It sounds like this game is only just in the early stages, so it will be a while before we see it officially revealed. In the meantime, Absurd Ventures has two other multimedia projects in the works, including a graphic novel and a radio drama.
