After years of waiting and anticipation, Call of Duty Warzone Mobile released earlier this year to a less-than-stellar reception. It seems fans have decided to go back to what they know and love, as its predecessor COD: Mobile has now surpassed 1 billion downloads.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official COD: Mobile page shared the following: “We have officially reached 1 Billion downloads! Thank you to the #CODMobile Community for helping us reach this milestone!”
For context, COD: Mobile (which released back in 2019) hit 500 million downloads by 2021. It then went on to gain a further 150 million downloads by the following year.
This means that the free-to-play mobile title – which is set to celebrate its 10th season soon – managed to gain an additional 350 million players in the past two and a half years.
With both COD: Mobile and Warzone Mobile continuing to co-exist concurrently, it will be interesting to see whether the more recent release ever manages to become the default COD experience for smartphones – or whether the former will only further its lead.
