When it was first announced, there were fears that the Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team would not be able to do the PS2 survival horror classic justice. Surprisingly, not only has the remake been highly-praised, but has already managed to sell over 1 million copies.
Making the announcement via a press release, the publisher shared the following: “Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that the cumulative worldwide shipment of the psychological horror game ‘SILENT HILL 2’ (PlayStation 5 and Steam), which was released on October 8, has exceeded 1 million units.”
For context, while Konami have not really shared individual sales figures for its prior Silent Hill titles, it was announced back in December 2018 that the franchise as a whole had surpassed 9 million copies – meaning the remake managed more than 10% of the entire franchise sales in under two weeks.
Given the undeniable success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, it’s safe to assume that more such remakes will be in the works – if they’re not already. It’ll be interesting to see where Konami takes the franchise next.
