As part of PlayStation’s multimedia strategy, the console manufacturer has partnered with a bunch of different production companies to adapt its IPs into film and TV. One of the biggest is undoubtedly Amazon’s God of War TV show. Unfortunately, it seems to be suffering from production woes.
Back in early 2022, we began to hear rumours that Sony was partnering with Amazon to produce a live-action God of War TV show. This was later confirmed in December of that year, with the first official details arriving in February 2023.
Since then, we have not heard from the show, and seemingly for good reason, as according to a new report from Deadline “Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are staging a do-over on God of War” with the publication also revealing that “showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have left the project after completing multiple scripts for the first season.”
According to Deadline, the God of War show is going to be heading in a different creative direction – though no specifics were given on exactly what this entails.
With the current scripts scrapped and the show taking a new direction, it’s safe to say that we won’t be seeing the God of War TV show any time soon. That said, both Amazon and Sony appear committed to the project – so hopefully it does eventually come to fruition.
