Red Dead Redemption series nears 100 million sales

Take-Two has produced plenty of news today in the wake of its quarterly earnings call. At this point, GTA 5 has surpassed 205 million copies sold worldwide, and the sequel GTA 6, is on track to release in 2025. Take-Two also gave a positive update on Rockstar's other hit series, Red Dead Redemption.

Following on from the launch of the original Red Dead Redemption on PC, PS4 and Switch, the series as a whole has surpassed over 92 million units sold. The vast majority of this comes from sales of Red Dead Redemption 1 and its pre-sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2. However, older titles like Red Dead Revolver, which aren't as connected to current direction of the series, also contribute to this overall sales figure.

Red Dead Redemption 2 in particular has sold more than 67 million copies to date, which makes Rockstar's decision to leave the game's Online mode untouched a bit puzzling. The company clearly has more faith in the on-going success of GTA Online instead, which continues to generate millions of dollars even a decade on from release.

Red Dead Redemption 1 is estimated to have sold somewhere around 23 million copies, a number that should grow now that the game and its expansion, Undead Nightmare, are both available on PC for the first time.
