Warcraft 2: Remastered leaks ahead of 30th Anniversary reveal

Recent discoveries suggest that Blizzard may be working on a remastered version of Warcraft 2. A logo and artwork were reportedly taken from Blizzard's own content delivery network, which has apparently been updated with mentions of “Warcraft II: Remastered Internal Alpha”.

As highlighted by Wowhead, the leaked materials feature artwork showcasing a human battleship navigating a stormy sea, a nod to one of the features introduced in Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness in 1995.

Blizzard is gearing up for the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise, with a special webcast scheduled for November 13th. The company has promised “something for everyone”, as it plans to reveal what's coming next to its various Warcraft-based live-service games and possibly new titles. An announcement of a remastered version of Warcraft 2 would fit within the theme.

If true, this wouldn't be Blizzard's first foray into remastering its classic titles. The company previously revitalised the original StarCraft in 2017, followed by Diablo 2 with 2021's Diablo 2: Resurrected. However, fans remain cautious, recalling the infamous release of Warcraft 3: Reforged in 2020, which received significant backlash for its departure from the beloved original. Interestingly, there are whispers that Blizzard may try to fix Warcraft 3: Reforged, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

KitGuru says: Are you a fan of the original Warcraft RTX games? Would you like to see Warcraft 2 getting a remaster?
