Microsoft expands the Surface line with new devices

Microsoft has announced a new set of Surface devices. These new portable electronics include the Surface Go 2 tablet, the Surface Book 3 detachable laptop, the Surface Earbuds, and the Surface Headphones 2.

Starting with the new Surface Book 3, Microsoft claims this offers “the power of a desktop, the versatility of a tablet, and the freedom of a light and thin laptop” in a single device. The Surface Book 3 is Microsoft's “most powerful laptop ever”, offering up to 50% more performance compared to its predecessor. With up to 17.5 hours of battery life, the Surface Book 3 will be available with 13-inch and 15-inch PixelSense displays, and equipped with a high-quality trackpad and keyboard.

CPU options include multiple 10th Gen Intel Core processors, while for the GPU there is a set of Nvidia's GeForce GTX and Quadro RTX graphics cards, paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR4 RAM and PCIe SSDs (256GB, 512GB or 1TB). There is a 5PM front camera and an 8MP rear camera. Additionally, there are 2x USB Type-A ports, 1x USB Type-C port, 1x 3.5mm headphone jack, 2x Surface Connect ports, WiFi 6, built-in Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth 5.0.

The new Surface Go 2 is the most affordable Surface computing device. Featuring a 10.5-inch PixelSense display with 1920x1280p resolution, a contrast ratio of 1500:1, and coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, this Surface Go will be available with either an Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4425Y or an undisclosed 8th Gen Intel Core m3 processor. Either way, integrated graphics is the same for both CPUs, being Intel UHD Graphics 615, and there's a choice of 4GB or 8GB of RAM. Storage options come down to 64GB eMMC or a 128GB SSD drive.

Additionally, the Surface Go 2 comes equipped with Microsoft Studio Mics, a dual-mic solution for an improved microphone sound quality. It also sports a 5MP front camera, an 8MP rear camera and a new Camera app to easily scan documents and whiteboards. The Surface Go 2 will be available with WiFi or LTE Advanced, both with the same battery capacity, allowing you to use this device for around 10 hours. There's 1x USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 1x Surface Connect port, a MicroSDXC card reader, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2x 2W stereo speakers.

Featuring 13.6mm drivers, two microphones per earbud, and with a frequency response ranging from 20 to 20000Hz, Microsoft says the Surface Earbuds are the perfect choice for those who “want to be connected without fully shutting out the world”. These earbuds can also be integrated with Microsoft 365 to notify you of incoming emails and so on. It uses Bluetooth 4.1/4.2, and it has IPX4 waterproof rating, touch, tap, swipe, and voice controls, and the battery lasts up to 24 hours. A 10 minutes charge should give you 1 hour of playtime. The package includes 3 pairs of silicone ear tips, a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, and the charging case.

Microsoft says its Surface Headphones 2 are designed to provide you with good levels of comfort, while delivering outstanding sound quality. With 13 levels of noise control, dual mics, and touch, tap and dial controls, the headphones feature 40mm Free Edge drivers delivering up to 115dB of volume, with a frequency response from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Battery life lasts for up to 20 hours and it can be fully charged in less than 2 hours. Users can connect via the USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The package includes a USB cable, a carrying case, and an audio cable.
