Gran Turismo 7 may have leaked with 2020 release date

The Gran Turismo series is one of PlayStation’s biggest. The sim-racing franchise has seen a release on every PlayStation home console since the PS1 back in 1997. That being said, the developers – Polyphony Digital – often take their time developing these titles, and so it is interesting that despite Gran Turismo Sport releasing in 2017, it looks as though its sequel may be around the corner – according to a professional racing cockpit manufacturer.

In a (now deleted) post on instagram, the professional racing cockpit manufacturer – Next Level Racing – asked its fans “What racing game are you most looking forward to in 2020?” Alongside the logos for already announced games such as Dirt 5 and F1 2020 was what appeared to be the logo for an as-of-yet unannounced Gran Turismo 7.

The PlayStation 5 is set to release in late 2020, and first-party racing games have traditionally been impressive graphical showpieces. Despite the fact that in recent years, GT titles have not launched alongside new consoles, it would make sense that Sony would want to show off the power of the upcoming PS5 with a game such as GT. In fact, the series has been used in the past to highlight some of the strengths of Sony’s own TV lineup.

That being said, in the wake of this alleged leak, Next Level Racing released a statement claiming that the logo “does not reflect any information from our end, and we deny knowing any information regarding the launch of GT7.”

Whether Gran Turismo 7 is real or not, fans likely won’t have to wait too long, as recent rumours suggest that the console manufacturer is planning a big PS5 event in June, featuring a number of game announcements. If Gran Turismo 5 is indeed coming out soon, that would most likely be the time and place for its announcement.
