Virtuos believes ‘any current gen game’ could work on Switch

There have been a few great current-gen Switch ports that many of us thought would be impossible but as time goes on, the studios managing these conversions are getting more confident. Recently, a Virtuos Senior Producer talked a bit on this very subject, claiming that pretty much any Xbox One or PS4 game could be brought to the Nintendo Switch.

Speaking in an interview with Nintendo Life, Zhang Chengwei, who most recently helped produce XCOM 2 for the Switch. Throughout the process of bringing this and other games to Switch, Virtuos has “no doubt that Switch adaptations can be worked for games on any of the current generation consoles”.

“We propose the best solutions for how to fully use the Switch’s best features and really make the game shine, not just as a game, but specifically as a Switch game. Off the back of our work on Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Dark Souls: Remastered, The Outer Worlds and the coming XCOM2, we now have no doubt that Switch adaptations can be worked for games on any of the current generation of consoles (PS4/XB1)”, the full quote reads.

Of course, there are certain quality standards that still need to be met. Virtuos won't “create low-quality products which might hurt the Switch library or the wider games industry”, so depending on expectations, there will certainly be games that are passed on for a Switch version simply due to concerns, whether they be over visual fidelity or overall performance.

KitGuru Says: After seeing The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch, I don't doubt that tech wizards could bring most current gen games to Switch either. Is there a particular current-gen game you would like to see brought to Switch? For me, I'd like to finally get that portable version of Persona 5.
