PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini launch is around the corner

PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini was originally expected to launch worldwide on March 19. However, due to production delays, the launch had to be indefinitely delayed everywhere except for Japan. Now Konami says that the console will be shipping to North American customers starting May 22, with availability in other regions expected to follow soon.

The original PC Engine COREGrafx was released in Japan on October 30, 1987 and in the UK in 1990. After more than 30 years since its initial release, Konami is releasing the PC Engine COREGrafx Mini console that emulates the original console's 16-bit hardware.

The new PC Engine COREGrafx Mini takes up half the size of the original console and is shipped with 57 games. The console is sold exclusively through Amazon with separate releases – and even different names – for different regions.

Konami's official twitter account posted the follow message, explaining the situation:

“Exciting news! Those who had purchased the TurboGrafx-16 mini via http://Amazon.com can start expecting theirs to arrive starting from May 22! We're still keeping a close eye on the situation for the Core Grafx mini, so hang in there Europe! (E) #Turbografx“

According to the tweet, consumers in North America can look forward to the release of the console on May 22. The good news is that the tweet also indicates that the European release is around the corner.
