Lenovo introduces the Mirage VR S3 headset with ThinkReality

Lenovo announced a “new VR solution for enterprise” during this year's VR/AR Global Summit Online Conference. The Lenovo Mirage VR S3 headset with ThinkReality is being developed by Lenovo alongside Pico Interactive, a company specialising in VR and enterprise solutions.

Built for professional use, the Lenovo Mirage VR S3 comes equipped with a 4K display with 75Hz refresh rate and 110º field of view (FOV). The headset can be used “hands-free” alongside the included controller, while the faceplate of the headset is said to be ‘easy to clean', making it suitable for “mass use”. According to Lenovo, the headset is designed to be durable and as it weighs only 470g, it should also be fairly comfortably due to its lightweight design. Additionally, the headset features built-in audio and up to 3-hours of rated battery life.

The Lenovo Mirage VR S3 uses Android for its operating system and features a Qualcomm 835 SoC, Bluetooth connectivity, and 64GB of storage which is expandable to up to 256GB through an SD card. Additionally, it supports the company's ThinkReality software platform, a “truly device- and cloud-agnostic AR/VR” platform that allows developers to deploy and manage their VR/AR applications and content on a wide scale.

According to Nathan Pettyjohn, Lenovo's Commercial AR/VR Lead, “VR helps achieve better, faster training at lower cost. Our enterprise customers are looking for solutions to build and enable more skilled and efficient global workforces. They are increasingly looking for cutting-edge solutions like VR and AR supported by ThinkReality’s flexible platform to scale applications enterprise-wide.”

The Lenovo Mirage VR S3 will be available starting Q3 2020 in North America, China, Japan, United Kingdom, France, and Spain, with LISS (Lenovo Integrated Solutions Support). The expected price for this VR headset in North America is under $450.
