Tencent is continuing to increase its presence in the video games industry. According to a tweet from an ex-Ubisoft game director, Tencent plans to open a new studio to develop AAA games in North America.
The tweet posted by Scott Warner also announced that the studio will be hiring people for different types of jobs “at all levels”. After leaving Ubisoft, Scott Warner will be leading Tencent's first North American studio dedicated to AAA games. The studio's exact location is not clear, but Scott wrote that it “might be Seattle, might be Los Angeles”.
Scott Warner is known for his 20+ years of experience in the industry. Scott worked as QA tester, scripter and designer across multiple video games, including Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate and its enhanced edition, Planetscape: Torment and its enhanced edition, Icewind Dale and its enhanced edition, Halo 4, and Battlefield: Hardline, as well as a lead designer at Oculus VR.
I am moving on to a new role. I’ll be the studio director of a new AAA operation in North America for Tencent. We will be hiring for all disciplines at all levels so reach out to me for details.
