On May 28, Cisco announced its intent to acquire the privately-held ThousandEyes, known for its software-as-a-service (SaaS) product capable of measuring network performance.
ThousandEyes was founded back in 2010 and its headquarter is located in San Francisco – the company also has offices in Dublin, London, New York and Tokyo. ThousandEyes has seen a lot of interest from investors and in February 2019 the company announced that it had reached total funding of $110 million.
Currently, ThousandEyes is made up by about 400 employees, which means that Cisco's intended acquisition is a big step for both companies. Cisco explains the step by saying that “the combination of Cisco's expertise in network and application performance and ThousandEyes' visibility into the Internet will provide customers with an end-to-end view into the digital delivery of applications and services”. In short, Cisco can provide the needed hardware, whereas the hope is that ThousandEyes can help out with the software.

“I'm excited to welcome the ThousandEyes team to Cisco,” said Todd Nightingale, senior vice president and general manager at Cisco Enterprise Networking and Cloud. “The combination of Cisco and ThousandEyes will enable deeper and broader visibility to pin-point deficiencies and improve the network and application performance across all networks. This will give customers end-to-end visibility when accessing cloud applications, and Internet Intelligence will improve networking reliability and the overall application experience.”
