Cyberpunk 2077 gets one more delay, will now release in November

It wasn't super shocking when Cyberpunk 2077 got pushed back from its original April 2020 release date to September 17th. Since then, all indications from CD Projekt Red have been that the game is ‘on track' and in the ‘final stages' of development. Unfortunately, game development can be hard to predict, with CD Projekt Red now opting to push back Cyberpunk 2077 by another couple of months.

Cyberpunk 2077 will no longer be launching on September 17th. CD Projekt Red is now aiming to release the game on the 19th of November, right in the middle of the holiday shopping season. This is also likely when we will see next-gen consoles launch, although CD Projekt Red has not mentioned this as part of the reason for the delay.

You can see the full statement from the studio in the tweet above, but the key takeaway is that CD Projekt Red is continuing to stand by its “ready when it's done” philosophy. While fans may be disappointed, the studio says that ultimately, this is “the right decision for the game”.

Cyberpunk 2077 is finished in terms of content and gameplay, meaning all of Night City has been created. All skills, items, quests and cutscenes are there. However, due to the complexity of the systems created, more time is needed to ensure balance and minimal bugs.

On the plus side, some journalists are currently playing a preview version of Cyberpunk 2077 this week, with preview impressions set to go live on the 25th of June, right after CD Projekt Red airs Night City Wire, during which we will see more of the game in action.

KitGuru Says: I was a bit caught off-guard by this due to recent statements about the game being on track, but when it comes down to it, this is all in service of making a better final product. Cyberpunk 2077 is now coming on November 19th. Hopefully we'll be getting a good look at it ahead of time thanks to previews and CD Projekt's upcoming stream.
