AMD introduces Radeon Pro 5600M GPU for 16-inch MacBook Pro

Apple launched the 16-inch MacBook Pro in late 2019, once again tapping AMD for graphics, delivering Radeon Pro 5300M and 5500M options at launch. Today, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is getting an upgrade, with the Radeon Pro 5600M now available for the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The AMD Radeon Pro 5600M is designed to deliver “desktop-class graphics performance in an efficient mobile form factor”. Using the AMD RDNA architecture and built using 7nm process technology, the Radeon Pro 5600M aims to make video editing, colour grading, app development and other compute-heavy workloads more accessible on-the-go.

The Radeon Pro 5600M has 40 Compute Units, 2560 Stream Processors, 8GB of HBM2 memory and a 2048-bit memory interface. In terms of performance, this GPU is rated to deliver up to 5.3 TFLOPS in FP32 workloads.

Apple is already offering the Radeon Pro 5600M as an optional upgrade when purchasing a 16-inch MacBook Pro. It is a pricey upgrade to make though, costing $800 on the base model and $700 on the higher-tier version.

KitGuru Says: AMD is making a big push in the laptop space this year, so we should be seeing more 5600M equipped laptops in the months to come. What do you all think of AMD's latest mobile GPU offering?
