AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs may release as early as September

AMD's announcement of the Ryzen 9000 series at Computex has led to speculation about the release timeline for the X3D models. A seven-month gap between the Ryzen 7000 and 7000X3D series suggests that the 9000X3D models might be released around CES 2025. However, a recent report indicates that the Ryzen 9000X3D series could arrive as early as September.

The report is from Club386, which doesn't clarify which CPUs are coming first. However, considering the Ryzen 7000X3D release date, our educated guess points to the 9950X3D and 9900X3D as the first Ryzen 9000X3D processors to come out. The 9800X3D should make its debut a month or two later.

If we consider the release cadence of the previous X3D series, the Ryzen 9000X3D might be, by far, the shortest. The Ryzen 5000X3D series (Ryzen 7 5800X3D) was released 17 months after the Ryzen 5000. As for Ryzen 7000X3D (Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D), it launched five months after the Ryzen 7000 series debut.

It's worth noting that AMD would have little reason to provide significant upgrades to its AM5 socket so soon, especially with the Intel Core Ultra 200 series “Arrow Lake-S” set to ship in Q4 2024. If Arrow Lake proves competitive, the planned X3D upgrade could position AMD to regain the top spot in benchmarks upon release.

KitGuru says: Are you planning on upgrading your system soon? Will you be waiting for AMD and Intel to launch all their upcoming CPUs before you decide? If so, you may only have to wait a few months.
