Intel Alder Lake rumoured to use DDR5 memory, Rocket Lake TDP also leaked

Intel's Comet Lake desktop processors have not yet been released to the public, but its successors have already seen some key specifications leak. As per these leaks, Intel's Alder Lake processors are slated to support DDR5 memory, while Rocket Lake's thermal specifications have been detailed.

It is expected that Intel's 11th Gen Rocket Lake processors will use the LGA 1200 socket, and there are also rumours that it might use up to 8 Willow Cove cores on a 14nm process node, resulting in high IPC processors suited for gaming systems.

As leaked by PTT and shared by Twitter user MebiuW, Rocket Lake processors will feature a 95W TDP(PL1) on some of its 8-core and 6-core CPUs, alongside other 80W TDP and 65W TDP variants across 8-core, 6-core and 4-core CPUs. The 95W TDP processors will have a PL2 of 173W, and a PL4 of 251W, with the Tau – the time that a processor can stay above the PL1 limit – set to 56 seconds.

The 80W and 65W TDP processors will both have a Tau of 28 seconds, but with different power targets. The 80W TDP CPUs have a PL2 of 146W, a PL3 of 191W, and a PL4 of 251W, while the 65W TDP CPUs have a PL2 of 128W, a PL3 of 177W, and the same PL4 as the 80W TDP CPUs.

Regarding the rumours about Intel's 12th Gen Alder Lake processors, these CPUs are expecting to launch with a new LGA 1700 socket, and they will support DDR5 memory. As per RetiredEngineer (via TechPowerUp), Alder Lake-S supports DDR5 at 4800GT/s on 1 DPC (1 DIMM per channel), and 4000GT/s on 2DPC (2 DIMMS per channel or one dual-rank DIMM per channel).
