CES expected to take place as usual in January 2021

This year, most events have been cancelled due to the coronavirus and while some were more optimistic and attempted to postpone until the summer, the situation hasn’t turned around enough for physical events to come back in full force. The team behind the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is optimistic about its chances for early next year though.

This week, CES was announced for January 2021, with plans to take place as usual- in person, in Las Vegas. Instead of postponing or cancelling the event, new health and safety measures will be in place instead.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the situation won’t continue to be monitored. Changes could be implemented at a later date but for now, planning is proceeding with the goal of holding CES in-person.

Here is a quote from the announcement: “While we plan to produce another in-person event in Las Vegas, we all face new considerations around attending conferences, conducting business and traveling to meetings. Just as your companies are innovating to overcome the challenges this pandemic presents, we are adapting to the evolving situation. And we want to ensure CES continues to help you make the connections you need to grow your business and your brand.”

For CES 2021, the show will have an expanded digital reach, so there will be more livestreams and “digital event opportunities”, meaning there is a backup plan in place for companies that want to be cautious depending on how the COVID-19 situation looks at the end of this year.

KitGuru Says: We’ll have to wait and see how things go. For now, CES happening in January seems a little too optimistic, but things could be different towards the end of this year.
