Sony recommends viewers wear headphones for PlayStation 5 event

Though Sony had initially intended to have its big PS5 blowout event on the 4th of June, global protests and the need for “more important voices to be heard“ led the console manufacturer to postpone the event. Now, the revised date has been confirmed for the 11th of June. To those who are planning to watch the stream, Sony is now recommending the use of headphones thanks to “some cool audio work in the show.”

In an update on the PlayStation Blog, Sid Shuman, the Senior Director of SIE Content Communications thanked fans “for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event for Thursday, June 11 at 9pm BST. We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.”

Regarding the upcoming event, Shuman added the caveat that the stream taking place on the 11th of June “will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second”. The reason for this was said to be that “this eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home.”

Of course, due to COVID-19 and work-from-home orders, many development processes have been slowed down significantly thanks to a current lack of synergy typically afforded by working in an office. Of course, Shuman clarified that “the games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”

Lastly, in an interesting piece of advice, Shuman informed fans that “it’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”

We already know that the PlayStation 5 will support and utilise 3D audio for more immersive experiences. Perhaps the PS5 event will attempt to simulate this. Whatever the reason may be, we won’t have to wait long, as the PlayStation 5 event is set to take place on the 11th of June at 9pm BST.
