Nvidia driver update brings support for DX12 Ultimate features and more

Nvidia’s latest GPU driver update is a pretty major one, bringing full support for the Microsoft DirectX 12 Ultimate feature stack, as well as hardware accelerated GPU scheduling on Windows 10.

This week, Nvidia began rolling out its latest ‘Game Ready’ and ‘Studio’ graphics, both containing DirectX 12 Ultimate feature support. These features include RayTracing (DXR), Variable Rate Shading, mesh shaders and sampler feedback. Until new Radeon GPUs come later in the year, Nvidia RTX GPUs are the only ones on the market with full support for DX12 Ultimate in hardware.

DirectX 12 Ultimate features are supported by all GeForce, TITAN and Quadro series RTX graphics cards.

Aside from that, the Windows 10 May 2020 update added support for hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, allowing GPUs to handle video playback and games calculations more efficiently by managing video memory. The latest Nvidia drivers also bring support for this feature, which will benefit a number of different applications, as well as games.
