AMD officially announces Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT and Ryzen 5 3600XT

Today not only marks the launch of AMD B550 motherboards, but it is also the launch for new 3rd Gen Ryzen ‘XT' series desktop processors. The Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT and Ryzen 5 3600XT all join the lineup today, offering better power efficiency and performance gains.

As explained by AMD Senior VP, Saeid Moshkelani, Ryzen 3000 XT CPUs utilise “additional optimisations to the 7nm manufacturing process to deliver industry leading single-thread performance”. You can expect higher boost speeds while maintaining the same TDP as non-XT counterparts.

Below you can find the specs for each new XT CPU:

MODEL CORES/

THREADS

BOOST/ BASE FREQUENCY (GHZ) TOTAL CACHE (MB) TDP (WATTS) Platform SEP (USD) EXPECTED AVAILABILITY
AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12/24 Up to 4.7/3.8 70 105 AM4 $499 July 7, 2020
AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT 8/16 Up to 4.7/3.9 36 105 AM4 $399 July 7, 2020
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT 6/12 Up to 4.5/3.8 35 95 AM4 $249 July 7, 2020

These CPUs are expected to be available at retail starting on the 7th of July. A month later, in August 2020, AMD A520 chipset motherboards will also become available, completing the lineup of motherboard options for 3rd Gen Ryzen.

KitGuru Says: The single-threaded performance gain is said to be around 4% for each CPU versus its non-XT version, so those who already own a 3rd Gen Ryzen CPU don't seem to be missing out on much. However, this could be a tempting option for those who have yet to upgrade. What do you all think of the Ryzen 3000XT series?
