The recently announced Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PS5 had its trailer taken down from the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The trailer is still up on Marvel's YouTube channel, but due to a copyright claim from Gameloft, Sony has removed the trailer from its channel.
Gameloft has been involved in the development of Spider-Man games for mobile platforms, including Spider-Man Unlimited, Spider-Man: Toxic City, and Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem. The reason behind the copyright claim is yet to be officially disclosed, but there are a number of theories circulating. As per PlayStation Lifestyle, some people believe that Gameloft found some kind of similarity in the trailer with one of their mobile games. The other theory suggests the issue is down to YouTube's algorithm which may have made a mistake and removed the trailer by accident.
Despite Gameloft developing the previously mentioned games, that doesn't make them owners of the IP. The video game rights to the Spider-Man franchise currently belong to Insomniac Games, the developer behind Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4. This makes a direct copyright claim less likely from a legal standpoint.
At the time of writing, the game trailer is still inaccessible through PlayStation YouTube channel, but you can watch it on Marvel YouTube channel. The trailer is likely tp remain offline until the dispute is settled, or when YouTube corrects its mistake, depending on the actual reason behind the takedown.
