Qualcomm unveils the Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC

Qualcomm has announced the next iteration of its smartwatch platform, the Snapdragon Wear 4100. The Snapdragon Wear 4100 is said to bring 85% better performance than the previous generation, alongside increased battery life.

This new SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon Wear 4100, utilises 12nm low-power process technology and is “designed to reduce power consumption >25% and bring extended battery life to the platform.” The Snapdragon Wear 4100 has an ARM Cortex A53 Quad-core CPU that runs with a clock speed of up to 1.7 GHz, while there is also support for 1080p video capture at 30 FPS.

Additionally, the Wear 4100  supports Wear OS by Google and its AON Co-processor is capable of handling up to 64K colours. Qualcomm also claims an “85% increase” in performance across the CPU, GPU, Memory, Camera and Modem – in short, a noticeable improvement for most components of the platform. Products based on the new 4100 are expected to start finding their way out to the market later this year.
