This week, Kioxia became the first company to launch 24G SAS SSDs for servers and storage applications – consisting of the company's 6th gen enterprise SAS SSD family. 24G SAS is expected to double the data throughput compared to its predecessor.
The 24G SAS technology was first demonstrated at the Flash Memory Summit 2019 when KIOXIA displayed its new PM6 Series. KIOXIA's PM6 series is said to deliver sequential read performance of up to 4,300 megabytes per second (MB/s), which is more than a 2x improvement over existing SAS drives. KIOXIA’s new drives are available in capacities up to 30.72 TB, making them the industry’s highest capacity 2.5” SAS SSDs.
“SAS technology continues to be the interface of choice for many workloads for its reliability and 24×7 operation in the enterprise data center,” noted Jeff Janukowicz, research vice president, IDC. “With the launch of the PM6 Series, KIOXIA should be well positioned to deliver on the higher performance and additional features that 24G SAS will provide to server and storage applications.”
The PM6 drives are now available for evaluation and qualification. Additional information can be found HERE.
