Gigabyte announce R292 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable rack servers

Following the announcement of Copper Lake 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors by Intel just a few days ago, Gigabyte has now unveiled a new range of serves featuring the Xeon Scalable CPUs. Gigabyte’s R292 server series is equipped with four of the new Xeon’s.

The R292 series comprises of two models, the R292-4S0 offering support for four double-slot accelerators as well as the R292-4S1 with eight full-height half-length expansion cards. Each of the R292 servers supports four 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, each able to provide data transfer or share workload with the other processors on the motherboard at up to 20.8GT/s.

Gigabyte R292 servers allow for up to 12TB of DDR4 memory to be installed, meeting the demands of real-time analytics, while the 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable CPU offers a total of 192 PCIe 3.0 lanes to permit the R292-4S0/R292-4S1 to support up to ten hot-swappable 2.5-inch U.2 SSDs as well as eight half-length or four double-height expansion slots for I/O cards or accelerators.

All these combined means that the R292 server series is the ideal candidate for cloud services and deep learning. Gigabyte expects the R292 to be used in rapidly growing computing environments, with the Xeon Scalable CPU offering 112 cores and 224 threads, administrators can start on a small scale and expand according to their needs.

The company also provides a range of free Gigabyte server management software (GSM) for all of its server products. GSM can remotely manage multiple servers and is compatible with IPMI or Redfish API and includes GSM Server browser, GSM CLI command-line interface monitoring tool, GSM agent to obtain server information, as well as GSM Mobile and GSM plug-in for remote management and monitoring from VMware vCentre.
