Recently, Activision revealed Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, the canonical 4th entry in the popular platformer franchise. While the original trilogy released before the concept of microtransactions, it would seem as though the 4th entry will include the functionality that has become so synonymous with the publisher’s titles – as the Microsoft store has listed that Crash Bandicoot 4 will include “in-app purchases.”
By going to the Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time store page listing on the Microsoft store, you can see that the game ”Offers in-app purchases”. Currently, it is unknown exactly what form of in-app purchases the game will take. It could simply offer an in-game store where players can purchase large pieces of potential future DLC. Alternatively however, these in-app purchases could take the form of microtransactions or even loot boxes in theory.
Activision has already announced that fans who pre order the game will receive bonus skins. Therefore there is a possibility that these in-app purchases will be more cosmetic skins made available to those with the spare money to do so. The latest Crash Bandicoot game ‘Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’ saw microtransactions added in an update after launch allowing fans to buy a number of skins. The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy however gave fans an entirely new level to purchase and play completely for free.
With previous Crash Bandicoot games offering different forms of ‘Microtransactions’, it’ll be interesting to see what model Acitvison has chosen for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.
