Intel Core i7 vPRO “Rocket Lake-S” CPU might come with 8 cores and 12 threads

A picture tiering the upcoming Intel “Rocket Lake-S” vPRO processors has surfaced, revealing some key specs. Of course, the Core i9 is the highest tier, with 8C/16T, meanwhile, the Core i7 sports 8C/12T.

The image was shared by a source from Videocardz, and seems to pack fresh information regarding Intel's “Rocket Lake-S” architecture. Unlike the “Comet Lake-S” processors, the next desktop processors coming from Intel might be limited to up to 8 cores and 16 threads for the Core-i9. Additionally, we can see that the K variants will have a 125W TDP, and that there will be two Core-i9, Core-i7, and Pentium processors, four Core-i5 processors, and three Core-i3 processors.

Another thing that the image shows us, is that the “Rocket Lake-S” Core-i7 vPRO CPUs will feature 8 cores and 12 threads. It is speculated that Rocket Lake-S may  be structurally limited to 8 cores and 16 threads, leading to Intel locking down the number of threads to differentiate between Core i9 and Core i7.

Further down below we have a Core i5 “Rocket Lake-S” vPRO processor, which should feature 6 cores and 12 threads just like the remaining Core-i5 CPUs. In the bottom of the table, we have the Core-i3 and Pentium processors, which according to the image, will be refreshed “Comet Lake-S” processors.

Intel Rocket Lake-S is expected to be available in 2021.

KitGuru says: Do you think Intel will bring an 8C/12T Core i7 to its mainstream series processors at some point?
