XDefiant surpassed 10 million players in under two weeks

Late last month after a great deal of hype – and many internal delays – Ubisoft’s XDefiant finally released for all the world to play. Following the official reveal of the game’s Season 1 update during the publisher’s ‘Ubisoft Forward’ showcase, the team have now revealed that XDefiant has surpassed 10 million players in less than two weeks.

In an interview conducted by IGN (and transcribed by MP1ST), the Executive Producer for XDefiant – Mark Rubin – spoke on the early reception for the free-to-play shooter, saying:

“The reception has been amazing. We've been keeping the game kind of lowkey, right? We're not spending $250 million on crazy trailers; we're a lowkey game. We're just here for the fun, for the fans and building it with the community.”

Rubin continued, “The game's been out for less than three weeks now. Reception has been extremely positive. We hit way bigger numbers than we expected. We were a million in an hour; we were hitting 10 million in less than two weeks, so the numbers have absolutely been amazing.”

For comparison, Apex Legends managed to surpass 25 million players in its first week back in 2019 – growing to 50 million within the first month. Of course, Apex Legends and XDefiant are two different types of games which released in very different circumstances, but it is interesting to note nonetheless.

That said, it appears as though the team are so far pleased with the early reception towards the game, both critically and commercially. With the title’s first season set to arrive early next month, hopefully XDefiant manages to retain its healthy user base.
