Skull and Bones will be free to play next week

While Ubisoft has tried to save face and claim that Skull and Bones is in fact doing well, the fact is, the game launched to very poor reviews and barely anyone has been talking about it since. Ubisoft is still hoping to win some gamers over though, with plans for a week-long free trial to coincide with the game's next season.

Like most other major multiplayer titles nowadays, Skull and Bones does have seasonal content. The first season is coming to an end soon. To get more people jumping in for the launch of the game's second season of content, Ubisoft will be making the game free to play from the 30th of May until the 6th of June, giving you a full week to jump in and see what the game has to offer.

Ubisoft has not yet shared sales figures or player numbers for Skull and Bones, but according to the publisher, it did achieve “record player engagement”, whatever that means. The game has not ranked highly in digital or physical game sales charts in the weeks since launch.

Skull and Bones, which is available on PC (Epic Games, Ubisoft Connect), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, will also be going on sale for 50 percent off across all platforms to coincide with this week-long free trial.

KitGuru Says: If you are curious at all about Skull and Bones, next week seems like the perfect opportunity to put some time into it. However, if you really want to play a multiplayer pirate game and sail the seas with your friends, I would recommend Sea of Thieves instead.
