Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree garners high praise in early reviews

Elden Ring has often been referred to as a masterpiece, putting together everything From Software has learned in its years of making ‘Souls like' games into one massive open world filled with difficult boss fights. The game went on to win Game of the Year in 2022. Now, two years on, the game's new expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, has launched to another wave of praise from critics.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is available starting from the 20th of June but anyone who has pre-ordered the expansion can pre-load the content now so you can jump in as soon as the game becomes officially available.

Over on Metacritic, the expansion sits at a 95 overall, based on over 30 reviews. On OpenCritic, the game is doing just as well, with a 94 overall score. Reviews cite the expansion's large size, with it being bigger than many other full games. The expansion also makes some changes to how difficulty is handled, adds new weapons, a new class and plenty more for players to jump in and discover.

If you're currently playing through Elden Ring in order to get access to the expansion content, then be warned that you will need to have beaten Malenia in the base game before moving on to the new content.
