Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is in ‘full development’

Final Fantasy VII Remake had a fantastic debut earlier this year but now that it has been out for a little while, everyone is wondering when part 2 will be on the way. In a Japanese interview this week, it would seem that Square Enix has confirmed one major milestone, with the next instalment entering ‘full development'.

Final Fantasy fan and Japanese translator, @aitaikimochi, managed to get their hands on an early copy of this month's issue of Famitsu, containing an interview with several members of the Final Fantasy VII Remake team, including director, Tetsuya Nomura. During that interview, we learn that work on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is entering full production.

“We know that everyone wants the next instalment quickly. We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible. Since we were also able to see the line of quality from the first instalment, we hope to make the next instalment even better in quality and make for an even better experience.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake producer, Yoshinori Kitase, also teased that the “new story of Final Fantasy VII has only just begun”. If you want a rough idea as to how long development might take, we can look back on Kingdom Hearts 3, which entered ‘full development' in 2016 before being released in 2019. Of course, there may be a slow start with this project though, as the Final Fantasy VII Remake team has previously commended on the impact of COVID-19 on development.

KitGuru Says: This is encouraging news, but there is still going to be quite a wait ahead. For starters, Final Fantasy VII Remake needs to come to other platforms in 2021, then perhaps late next year, we'll see some good progress on Part 2. Have many of you played Final Fantasy VII Remake yet? Are you looking forward to the next chapter in the series?
