Star Citizen will refresh its roadmap to reflect reality

Star Citizen is reshuffling its roadmap, as the developers behind the ambitious, crowdfunded project have come to the realisation that the current one no longer represents reality. Now having admitted that its roadmap is out of date, the studio has offered an explanation for what will be happening next.

This has all come about as the Star Citizen community begins to grow impatient, particularly when it comes to Squadron 42, which still hasn't seen the light of day. Responding to this, a CIG community manager wrote: “When we realised that our old Roadmap didn’t represent our development progress very well, we started exploring options for how to build something more informational that fit how we develop games.”

While the developers are happy with how development is going on Squadron 42, Cloud Imperium Games is still trying to “find balance in sharing SQ42 content while minimally impacting the development team” so that they can focus on finishing the game.

To correct things, Star Citizen fans can expect CIG to take the following steps:

  1. Give an explanation of the goals of our new Roadmap and what to expect from it
  2. Show a rough mockup of the proposed new Roadmap
  3. Share a work in progress version of the Roadmap for at least one of our core teams
  4. And then finally transition to this new Roadmap

So what we essentially have here is a roadmap to the new roadmap. Expect more communication and updates from CIG in the coming months as the transition takes place.

KitGuru Says: The Star Citizen roadmap hasn't seemed entirely accurate for quite some time now, so a rethinking of the roadmap definitely seems needed. Are many of you keeping up to date with Star Citizen?
