Philips unveil a new 49-inch SuperWide monitor

Earlier this week, Philips announced a new display that offers all the benefits of multi-monitor configurations but without the setup hassle that comes with it. Philips suggests that with the new 498P9 SuperWide monitor, users can forget multi-monitor setups for good.

Features of the new Philips 498P9 Brilliance 32:9 SuperWide curved LCD monitor include a huge 49-inch display with a pixel resolution of 5120 x 1440, ideal for replacing two 27-inch 16:9 1440p QHD monitors set up side by side. An 1800R curvature offers a wider field of view that wraps around the user.

The 498P9 is equipped with a VA panel featuring a native contrast ratio of 3000:1, as well as a smooth 70Hz refresh rate. The monitor also offers high colour accuracy DeltaE < 2, along with wide colour gamut covering 121% sRGB and 91% of the AdobeRGB colour range. Built into the display is MultiView Technology, meaning that the monitor can be connected to two systems simultaneously with active dual-connect and view for more efficient and productive workflows.

In terms of connectivity, the Philips 498P9 Brilliance is kitted out with DisplayPort, HDMI and USB 3.2. A built-in MultiClient KVM switch, used in conjunction with the MultiView function allows users to control two separate devices at once with a single keyboard, mouse and monitor setup to save desk space. Users can simply switch between the systems via a simple press of a button.

Philips 498P9 Brilliance is outfitted with ergonomic features too, including a Compact Ergo Base that offers user-friendly swivel and height adjustment for maximum comfort, combined with other features such as LowBlue Mode and Flicker-Free technology to reduce eye fatigue. The 498P9 also meets environmental standards including EnergyStar 8.0, EPEAT, RoHS, TCO Certified and comes in 100% recyclable packaging.

The Philips 498P9 Brilliance 32:9 SuperWide curved LCD monitor will be available to purchase from August 2020, priced at £749.

KitGuru says: I am one of those users who could benefit from switching to a single SuperWide monitor such as the Philips 498P9 but continue to stick with two separate displays. Would you guys prefer to use a single large SuperWide or are you happy with your multi-monitor setup?
