Disney is already planning another streaming service for 2021

So far, Disney+ has been a huge success and it would seem that Disney is looking to further expand into the streaming space in 2021 with another service. Unlike Disney+, however, this new service will focus on content from Disney-owned networks like ABC and FX, as well as studios like Searchlight and 20th Century Fox.

Disney already has a presence on the market for streaming services with Disney+, which managed to gain 10 million subscribers in one day. Walt Disney also fully owns and operates Hulu and recently acquired 20th Century Fox, further expanding its media empire. This new streaming service will focus on other non ‘Walt Disney' productions, from the likes of 20th Century Studios and TV networks.

Since this service is focusing on other massive media brands, it will be launched under another Disney subsidiary, ‘Star'. As reported by The Verge, Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, had this to say about this new multi-service strategy:

“In terms of the general entertainment offering internationally, we want to mirror our successful Disney Plus strategy by using our Disney Plus technical platform, bringing in content we already own and distributing it under a successful international brand that we also already own, which is, of course, Star”.

KitGuru Says: The number of streaming services is starting to get a bit out of hand, but Disney seems confident that it can drive subscriptions, even by splitting content off into multiple libraries. What do you all think of this latest plan?
