The Witcher has quickly become one of the most popular series on Netflix and as a result, planning for future seasons has begun and spin-offs are also being explored. One such spin-off was already announced a while back but now, Netflix has also decided to fund a live-action prequel series.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is an anime-inspired spin-off. Meanwhile, our newly announced live-action spin-off is called The Witcher: Blood Origin.
1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.
Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
— NX (@NXOnNetflix) July 27, 2020
Unlike the other spin-off and the main series, Blood Origin will not include Geralt of Rivia. Instead, it takes place more than a thousand years before Geralt was born, focusing on the very first Witcher.
So far, this is just a 6-part series, with no indication of it continuing beyond that. With that in mind, this could just be a limited series. If you enjoyed The Witcher's first season, then you will be encouraged to hear that showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, is also involved with Blood Origin.
