Horizon Zero Dawn gets its first PC patch

Horizon Zero Dawn has been out on PC for one week now and unfortunately, early buyers have ran into some issues with the PC version. Guerrilla Games is working on fixes though, with the first patch arriving today.

This initial PC patch is smaller than the developers had hoped, but more issues are being worked on for the next patch, which should hopefully come out later next week. In the meantime, patch 1.01 does identify a number of known issues and fixes some crashes, functionality issues and other areas.

Here are the patch notes:

Crash/Hang Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash if the SteamUI didn’t initialise properly on startup.

Functionality Issue Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Concentration and other slowdown mechanics wouldn’t work for everyone.

  • Fixed an issue where Windows/Steam profile names containing special characters would prevent some players from saving the game. We are still investigating other saved game issues as well.

  • Fixed an issue where Windows/Steam profile names containing special characters would prevent some players from saving screenshots in Photo Mode.

Other Fixes

  • Added improved diagnostic data collection when submitting a crash report.

  • Fixed several backend issues.

  • Fixed a video corruption issue for specific hardware. We’re continuing to look at other hardware configurations as well.

As for known issues, Guerrilla is aware of problems with additional start-up crashes, GPU-related hangs, graphical settings issues and problems with specific hardware combinations. The devs are encouraging players to continue submitting their crash and error logs so that the team can work through them and get everything patched up in the weeks to come.

KitGuru Says: I have been quite fortunate with my time with Horizon Zero Dawn on PC. So far, I've faced no issues, but a friend of mine has had several crashes and of course, there are numerous bug reports floating around online too. Hopefully this first patch can get the game running stable for more people and in a few weeks time, most issues will be resolved.
