Pikmin 3 Deluxe announced for Nintendo Switch

Since the Nintendo Switch’s release back in 2017, the console manufacturer has slowly but surely been bringing enhanced ports of its Wii U titles to the hybrid portable system. One of the last remaining holdouts – Pikmin 3 – has now been announced to be coming to the Switch in October as ‘Pikmin 3 Deluxe.’

Pikmin 3 Deluxe will be launching on the Nintendo Switch on the 30th of October. What makes this release ‘Deluxe’ is the fact that it is adding “multiple difficulty modes, new side-story missions featuring Olimar & Louie, and all the DLC from the original release,” as well as the addition of local story mode co-op.

The new side-story will help players “learn a bit about what happened before and after the main story” from the perspective of Olimar & Louie., serving as a prologue and epilogue. Though not explicitly stated, the Switch version will also likely include resolution and framerate improvements.

While the Switch port does include a decent number of enhancements and additions, the game is set to retail for $60, which may sting for some – especially considering the original Pikmin 3 released all the way back in 2013. Furthermore, following the announcement, Nintendo removed the original Pikmin 3 from its digital store, meaning that now, the only way to play Pikmin 3 (digitally) will be via the Switch for $60.

Regardless, it’s good to see one of the last remaining Wii U exclusives come to the Switch – which begs the question as to when The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wind Waker will arrive.
