Guild Wars 2 is coming to Steam ahead of new expansion ‘End of Dragons’

Guild Wars 2 is about to turn eight years old and to commemorate that milestone, the game is finally coming to Steam. This puts Guild Wars 2 in the ranks of other long-running MMOs from the 2010s finally hitting the Steam library, including the likes of Phantasy Star Online 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Guild Wars 2, complete with its base game content and more recent expansions, will be available on Steam starting in November. There are some drawbacks though, as current ArenaNet accounts can't be switched over to Steam and the opposite is also true, with Steam accounts not being able to link with ArenaNet. However, the ‘shared world' remains, so players with either account can still play with each other.

This news arrives alongside the announcement of the next major Guild Wars 2 expansion – End of Dragons. This new expansion will send players to a new island called Cantha, which appears to be in danger, likely because of Dragons. Unfortunately, that's all the information we have for now but we can expect to see and hear more in the months to come.

Guild Wars 2 and its first two expansions, Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, will be on Steam starting in November. In 2021, the new expansion, End of Dragons, is expected to release.

KitGuru Says: I haven't caught up with Guild Wars 2 myself since the first expansion, but I've continued to hear good things. Have many of you been keeping up to date with Guild Wars 2 over the years? Do you see yourself picking up or switching to the Steam version later this year?
