CD Projekt announces The Witcher: Monster Slayer

CD Projekt Red first branched out into free-to-play mobile games a few years ago with a standalone version of GWENT, which is still running today. This year, another mobile game based on The Witcher IP is being added to the portfolio – The Witcher: Monster Slayer. 

This game is being developed by Spokko, a smaller studio within the CD PROJEKT family. It is a free-to-play, augmented reality RPG for iOS and Android set in The Witcher universe. Taking inspiration from games like Pokemon Go, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will have fans roaming their real-life local streets and encountering monsters to defeat along the way.

 

Monster Slayer is said to have console-grade visuals and some deeper combat systems. For instance, you can use the time of day and your real-world weather conditions to gain an upper-hand against certain monsters from The Witcher universe. As you would in a traditional Witcher game, you can also prepare for a fight ahead of time by brewing potions, applying oils to your weapons, crafting bombs or using monster bait to lure them out.

There will be a series of story quests, which will be inspired from some of the quests found in the original Witcher games for PC and consoles. Right now, there is no release date, but The Witcher: Monster Slayer will have release dates announced for both iOS and Android later this year.
