After months of rumours, the new Call of Duty for 2020 was revealed to in fact be another entry in the Black Ops series set during the Cold War. While the blowout reveal event is set to take place on Wednesday the 26th of August, Treyarch have released a new teaser image, hinting at some of the story and gameplay details that fans can expect to play through upon the game’s release later this year.
The teaser image, which was simply accompanied by the caption “#BlackOpsColdWar 8.26.2020” appears to indicate that the game might make you play on both sides of the war, experiencing the controversial history from both angles. While having multiple playable characters isn’t necessarily new for Call of Duty, it’ll be interesting to see how Treyarch chooses to position these two opposing sides.

Other details in the image include a cosmonaut, suggesting perhaps that the space race may factor heavily into the story – as it did during the actual Cold War.
Since the release of Modern Warfare in 2019, the Call of Duty series has seen a slight shift to putting emphasis on the greyness and brutality of War. With the Cold War itself being so messy and controversial, it’ll be interesting to see just how Treyarch chooses to tell this story. Hopefully we’ll find out more on the 26th of August.
