Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is one of the highest rated games of the year

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise has had a rough time over the past several years. What began as a universally acclaimed franchise when it first released, began to see itself slip downhill, with Pro Skater 5 being the worst-reviewed in the entire franchise. It appears the series has redeemed itself with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 – becoming one of the highest rated games of the year.

While the game is only launching today for the general public, video game critics have officially spoken, and according to them, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is one of the year’s best. With a current Metacritic score of 88, the remake of the first two Tony Hawk games is the 5th highest rated PlayStation 4 game of 2020. The game is also available on Xbox One and PC, though the majority of the reviews were conducted on the PS4.

This marks a triumphant return for the skateboarding franchise, which saw its popularity and critical reception declining over the most recent several years. While Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 is one of the highest rated games of all time (with a Metacritic score of 98), the most recent entry prior to 1+2’s release – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 – was the franchise’s lowest, with a critic score of 32 (and an even lower user score).

So while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 has not managed to hit the absolute highs of the franchise’s earliest entries, the game is most certainly a huge leap in the right direction. Hopefully long-term fans of the franchise will feel the same way.
