Evil Genius 2: World Domination slips out of 2020

One of the standout announcements during the PC Gaming Show earlier this year was Evil Genius 2: World Domination – a long awaited return to the simulation games of old. While the game was due to come out before the end of this year, COVID-19 has struck again, forcing Rebellion to delay the game until 2021.

In an update shared on Twitter today, Rebellion CTO, Chris Kingsley and CEO, Jason Kingsley, confirmed that the game will now be targeting a release in the first half of 2021:

As the statement says, the impact of COVID-19 and requiring developers to move out of the office and begin working from their homes has contributed to this delay. However, in the interest of doing “justice to the franchise”, pushing the game back is the right move.

A new release date has not been decided on yet, but Rebellion says it will do so “as soon as we can”, adding that we should expect an update “sooner rather than later”. In the meantime, there will be a closed beta before the end of the year, so some lucky players will get to at least try the game out for themselves and give feedback.

KitGuru Says: Sometimes delays are inevitable and that has proved truer this year than any other point in game development history. The industry has had to make some big changes to how it operates, so we may have to expect a few more delays not just this year, but next year too.
